Planomicrobium okeanokoites is a type of bacteria . The species is one of the firmicutes . The bacterium was isolated from the ocean floor.

features

Appearance

The cells of Planomicrobium okeanokoites are rod-shaped and peritrich flagellated. The cell size is between 0.4 and 0.8 μm in width and 1.0 to 20 μm in length. However, most cells are less than 2.8 μm in length. Spores are not formed. The colors of the cells are usually light yellow to light orange. In a nutrient medium which contains NaCl , the Gram staining can be positive to Gram-variable; if no NaCl is present, it is negative.

Growth and metabolism

Planomicrobium okeanokoites is chemoorganotrophic and strictly aerobic . The metabolic pathway is breathing . Growth appears at temperatures between 20 and 37 ° C. It tolerates NaCl values from 0 to 7%, so Planomicrobium okeanokoites is halotolerant . The catalase test is positive, the oxidase test is weakly positive and the urease test is negative. There is no nitrate reduction .

The bacterium can hydrolytically break down the protein gelatin . Also casein is used, the tests on the use of force and the Äskulinspaltung negative.

Chemotaxonomic Features

The GC content in the DNA is 45.9 mol percent. The predominantly present menaquinones are MK-7 and MK-8. The cell wall contains lysine , glutamic acid , aspartic acid and alanine . The peptidoglycan type is A4α, the two tetrapeptides of the peptide bridge are linked via an aspartic acid (type L- Lys- D -Asp). The main phospholipids of the membrane are phosphatidylethanolamine , phosphatidylglycerol and bisphosphatidylglycerol . The branched fatty acids most frequently found in the membrane are iso -C 14: 0 ( iso - tetradecanoic acid , scientific name 12-methyltridecanoic acid , C 14 H 28 O 2 ) and iso -C 16: 0 ( iso - palmitic acid , scientific name 14- Methylpentadecanoic acid, C 16 H 32 O 2 ).

Systematics

Planomicrobium okeanokoites belongs to the Planococcaceae family . In 1944 the species was described for the first time and assigned to the genus Flavobacterium . In 1996 it was transferred to the genus Planococcus . Finally, it was added to the current genus Planomicrobium in 2001 by Jung-Hoon Yoon and colleagues .

etymology

The generic name is made up of the Greek words planos ("wanderer") and micros ("small") and refers to the size (it is either cokes or short rods) and the motility of these bacteria.

The species name P. okeanokoites is composed of the Greek word "okeanos" (the ocean) and the Latin word "choite" (bed) and refers to the habitat of the bacterium, the seabed.
