Plover is located in central Wisconsin, at the confluence of the Plover River with the Wisconsin River , a left tributary of the Mississippi .
The geographical coordinates of Plover are 44 ° 27'23 "north latitude and 89 ° 32'38" west longitude. The municipality extends over an area of 27.95 km², which is distributed over 26.81 km² of land and 1.14 km² of water.
Neighboring towns to Plover are Whiting and Stevens Point (on the northern parish line), Custer (10 miles northeast), Amherst Junction (13 miles east), Amherst ( 13 miles in the same direction), Bancroft (11 miles south) and Wisconsin Rapids (15 miles west-southwest).

history
The place was first settled in 1844 and was the administrative seat of Portage County. In 1857 Plover was first incorporated as a "Village". After the county seat was moved to Stevens Point, the place lost its status as an independent municipality. In 1912 it was incorporated again, but this was reversed several times. In 1971 the third survey took place as the Village of Plover .

According to the 2010 census, Plover had 12,123 people in 4,948 households. The population density was 452.2 people per square kilometer. In the 4948 households there were statistically 2.44 people each.
The racial the population was composed of 92.8 percent white, 0.5 percent African American, 0.4 percent Native American, 3.8 percent Asian and 1.0 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.5 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 3.2 percent of the population.
25.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 63.7 percent were between 18 and 64 and 11.0 percent were 65 years or older. 50.9 percent of the population was female.
