Podravka is a Croatian food company that is one of the largest companies in Southeast Europe . Products include the herb mixture Vegeta and Ajvar . There is a sales office for Vegeta in Poland and two licensed distributors in Austria and Hungary .

history

1934 to 1990

The brothers Marijan and Matija Wolf founded the company in 1934 as a fruit factory . When Communist Marshal Tito came to power in 1947, the company became state-owned and was given its current name.

In 1949 Podravka started producing fruit jam. In 1952 new products came onto the market: the former fruit factory began to produce sweets , mustard , ketchup , fruit brandy and canned meat . In 1957 the production of instant soups began . The rooster on the chicken soup became a cult symbol in Yugoslavia .

In 1959 Vegeta on the market launched an all-purpose spice that today in more than 40 countries distributed is.

In 1967 Podravka entered into the first collaborations with foreign companies and exported Vegeta to Hungary and the Soviet Union for the first time . After founding the subsidiary Belupo in 1972, Podravka started producing medicines, first in Ludbreg and from 1981 also in Danica.

Development after Croatian independence

After the end of the Croatian War and the collapse of the SFRY , Podravka was privatized in 1993 and converted into a joint stock company. Trading in Podravka shares on the Zagreb Stock Exchange started in 1998. With 130 million euro trading profit were three new factories built.

New production facilities for Vegeta were opened in Koprivnica and Poland in 2000 . In the same year Podravka in Poland took over exclusive sales for Barilla products and a year later sales for the Croatian confectionery manufacturer Kraš in Hungary . In honor of Zlata Bartl, responsible for the development of Vegeta in 1959, the company founded the Zlata Bartl Foundation in 2001.

Podravka took over Ital-Ice and the Czech company Lagris in 2002 . In the same year, cooperation agreements were signed with Nestlé , HJ Heinz Company and Unilever and the subsidiary Belupo was converted into a stock corporation.

In 2003, Podravka opened a new factory in the industrial area of ​​Danica. The EVA brand was taken over three years later .

Podravka took over the companies Warzywko and Perfekt from Poland and Lero from Croatia in 2007 . In the same year, Podravka was included in the CROX index of the Vienna Stock Exchange . Podravka entered merchandising in 2008 through a contract with Paramount Pictures . In the same year it took over the brands Čokolešnik and Čoko.

In 2009 the company got caught up in a corruption and financial scandal in the course of which several board members were arrested. They had embezzled almost 35 million euros in company funds and tried to gain control of the company through illegal transactions. In the same year Belsad was taken over and a new logistics center was opened in Dugopolje .

The following year, a Podravka product was first produced in the United States .

In 2012, Zvonimir Mršić was appointed chairman of the board and Dubravko Štimac chairman of the board.

In 2013 the company opened a "Food innovation center" together with the Ru eröffneter Bošković Institute. In the same year Podravka signed an agreement with the Croatian spirits manufacturer Badel in 1862 for the exclusive distribution of its products in Slovenia .

Podravka took over the fish processing company Mirna in 2014 and in 2015 bought a majority stake of 51.55% in the Slovenian food company Žito .
