history

Wolfswiese was founded in 1828 near the Semenic Mountains in the Banater Bergland , in western Romania by German Bohemia , together with Wolfsberg , Weidenthal and Weidenheim . 444 people were settled in Wolfswiese. Most of these came from the Bohemian districts of Elbogen and Klattau . The village was abandoned a few years later.

Shortly after the settlement, there was dissatisfaction in the place. In order to build their houses, the colonists first had to cut down the trees they needed, the forest first had to be cleared for the promised arable land, and there was also the bad climate. So in the autumn of 1833 the places settled with German Bohemia were abandoned. The German Bohemians had the choice of returning to Bohemia or of settling in any other place in the Danube Monarchy. Wolfswiese was completely abandoned. 18 families settled in Lindenfeld, others in places in the Banater Heide, such as Lugosch , Bakowa , Darowa , Rekasch , Moritzfeld , Liebling , Nitzkydorf and Tschakowa .

Over the past few years, Romanians have settled in the area of the old village of Wolfswiese. There are currently around 650 inhabitants in Poiana. There are plans to build a convalescent home on the area of the village Wolfswiese at an altitude of 950 meters. Here, at the foot of the Semenic Mountains, in Poiana Lupului, the “Semenic Folk Fest” music festival takes place every year.
