The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Poland ( Polish: Ministerstwo Obrony Narodowej , literally Ministry of National Defense ) is part of the Polish executive branch and the Ministry of the Central European State responsible for defense and the Polish armed forces . Analogous to the German Federal Ministry of Defense , the ministry defines the defense policy guidelines of the country. The current head of the agency as Minister of Defense has been Mariusz Błaszczak since 2018 .
tasks
The main tasks of the Polish Ministry of Defense include:
- ensuring operational readiness and the further development of the armed forces,
- the administration of the armed forces in peacetime,
- the implementation of the political guidelines given by the Polish Council of Ministers ,
- the fulfillment of the tasks and obligations of the Polish armed forces in international operations and alliances, etc. a. in exercises.
In peacetime, the defense minister exercises supreme command over the armed forces on behalf of the president ; he is also the highest disciplinary superior for all soldiers.
structure
The Defense Minister leads the Polish armed forces and is represented by a State Secretary. The highest military member of the management group is the chief of the Polish general staff , currently Leszek Surawski , and the management level also includes two sub-state secretaries, the chief general of the Ministry of Defense, the minister’s office, an operations center and a press spokesman.
The departments responsible for administration are under this management level for
- Public relations ,
- Review of the armed forces,
- legal matters,
- financial / budget issues,
- Infrastructure ,
- Procurement,
- International security policy ,
- Cooperation with foreign armed forces,
- soldiers' social affairs,
- Administration,
- Human Resource,
- as well as strategy and planning.
