The 1980 Pontins Professional was a snooker tournament for the 1979/80 season . It took place from May 3rd to 10th at Pontins' Holiday Park in Prestatyn on the north coast of Wales.

Last year's winner Doug Mountjoy did not defend his title. In return, Ray Reardon reached the final for the fifth time in the seventh edition of the tournament. For the first time he lost the final in Prestatyn. The Englishman John Virgo won it 9: 6 and got the third professional title of his career within 7 months.

Prize money

After the ups and downs in prize money in recent years, the prize money made a big leap up with the change in tournament mode. From £ 2,000 divided between the two finalists, £ 6,200 was distributed among all 8 participants. Winner and runner-up each got £ 500 more.
