The Portuguese-Solomonic relations describe the intergovernmental relationship between Portugal and the Pacific island state of the Solomon Islands . The countries have direct diplomatic relations.

Relations are considered unencumbered, but very poorly developed, as the countries are very far apart and have little in common historical, political or economic points of contact.

In 2017, neither Portuguese citizens were registered in the Solomon Islands consularly, nor were Solomon Islands citizens registered in Portugal.

Since the agreement between the Solomon Islands and the EU from October 2016, citizens of Portugal and the Solomon Islands can enter the other country without a visa for up to 90 days.

At the time of Portuguese expansion from the 15th century, the region of today's Solomon Islands was not a destination for Portuguese explorers, as the area fell into the Spanish sphere after the Treaty of Saragossa of 1494 and there was therefore no Portuguese motivation to work here.

After the independence of the Solomon Islands from Great Britain in 1978, no special points of contact with Portugal developed. On 20 November 1997 doppelakkreditierte to zozimo Justo da Silva , Portuguese Ambassador to Australia, as the first representative of Portugal in the Solomon Islands.

In 2018 there was no measurable trade between Portugal and the Solomon Islands.

Culture

The music group Narasirato from the Solomon Islands made a guest appearance in 2012 at the FMM Festival the Musicas do Mundo , the most important world music festival in Portugal.

Sports

On November 18, 2009, the Portuguese national beach soccer team defeated the Solomon Islands selection at the Beach Soccer World Cup 2009 6: 1 and thus secured progress, while the Solomon Islands were eliminated afterwards.

The Portuguese national soccer team and the national team of the Solomon Islands have not yet played against each other (as of March 2019).

The women's national football team of Solomon has not yet participated in the Algarve Cup and has not yet met the Portuguese women's national team elsewhere .
