FMM Sines 2008

The FMM Festival Musicas do Mundo in Sines is one of the largest world music events on the Iberian Peninsula. In 2008 the festival celebrated its 10th anniversary. Between 80,000 and 90,000 spectators attended the festival on this occasion in July of that year. Over 30 music groups and soloists presented themselves on several stages in the town of Sines and in the neighboring town of Porto Covo over a period of 10 days. The festival is organized by the municipality of Sines. In addition to world music performers, jazz, folk, blues, tango and reggae musicians from all over the world are invited. The audience is mostly young, but also includes older music-interested visitors and locals.

In addition to the main stage in the Castelo de Sines castle, which seats 7,000, there are also stages on Vasco da Gama beach (for up to 15,000), in Porto Covo - a neighboring fishing village - for up to 8,000 and in the art center von Sines with an auditorium for 200 spectators and an outdoor stage for a further 300 spectators. Since 1999, the FFM has held 297 concerts with a total of over 600,000 spectators. In addition to the concerts with an entrance fee, free concerts are also offered.

The main stage is on the site of the historic Sines Castle. Here the audience has been celebrating the highlights of the festival for years. The FMM Festival has been ranked among the best world music festivals in Europe several times by specialist magazines such as the British Songlines Magazine .
