Presidential election in Poland 1922 (December 20)

The second presidential election in Poland took place in Warsaw on December 20, 1922 , just eleven days after the first presidential election. The National Assembly has Stanisław Wojciechowski of Poland President of the Republic elected.

The elected on December 9, 1922 President Gabriel Narutowicz was already on December 16 after a smear campaign of the nationalist press of the fanatics Eligiusz Niewiadomski murdered. Sejm Marshal Maciej Rataj took over the official business of the head of state on an interim basis in accordance with the “March constitution” and called new elections for Wednesday, December 20, 1922.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed Sikorski cabinet introduced emergency laws to stop the excesses of the right and the left, who were indignant about the political murder .

The following candidates were proposed for election by the political groups in the National Assembly:

• Kazimierz Morawski - historian and classical philologist, head of the Polish Academy of Learning , former member of the Austrian Manor House (1907–1918), former rector of the University of Cracow , proposed by the Union of Nationalist and Christian Democratic Parties
• Stanisław Wojciechowski - presser, cooperative, co-founder and until 1905 member of the Polish Socialist Party , former Minister of the Interior (1919–1920), proposed by the central to moderate right-wing Polish Peasant Party “Piast” .

The vote

Under the chairmanship of the Sejm Marshal Maciej Rataj, the secret ballot took place at the third session of the National Assembly.
