European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture
The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award , until 1998 Mies van der Rohe Award for European Architecture , is an architecture prize that was launched in 1987 by the European Commission , the European Parliament and the Mies van der Rohe - Barcelona Foundation was called. It is named after the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and is awarded every two years. The prize is endowed with 60,000 euros and is considered the most prestigious European architecture prize.
Mies van der Rohe Foundation
The foundation that awards the award is based in Barcelona and also manages one of Mies van der Rohe's most famous buildings: the so-called Barcelona Pavilion , which served as the German pavilion at the 1929 World Exhibition in Barcelona and was then canceled in accordance with the contract. The foundation was established in 1983 to rebuild the pavilion and make it accessible to the public from 1986.
