Providencia has been shown to treat diarrhea , urinary tract infections , burns , wound infections and bacteremia . Providencia are (like their similar species of the genus Proteus ) important nosocomial pathogens ("hospital germs"), v. a. after interventions in the urogenital tract . They are also considered to be opportunistic pathogens and are naturally resistant to the antibiotics ampicillin ± sulbactam , amoxicillin ± clavulanic acid ,first-generation cephalosporins , colistin , tetracyclines , tigecycline and nitrofurantoin ..
