Flow through communities

course

The Queue d'Ane rises at a height of 303 meters a little west of the hamlet of Pommerède in the immediate vicinity of the D 79, 2.5 kilometers west of the center of Mialet . Shortly afterwards it flows through the municipality of Saint-Saud-Lacoussière in a southerly direction and then after about 2 kilometers forms the border to Saint-Jory-de-Chalais . Here it begins to cut deeper into the basement rock and meander slightly . After another 3 kilometers, it takes the Ruisseau de la Rebière from the right . At Les Riffes , another nameless right branch comes towards you from the northwest. From here the river forms the border between Saint-Martin-de-Fressengeas and Saint-Jory-de-Chalais and the meanders gain in amplitude. After 2.5 kilometers, at La Brégère from the west-northwest, it again reaches an unnamed right side stream. The river now moves exclusively in the municipal area of Saint-Martin-de-Fressengeas. Shortly before its confluence with the Côle coming from the left at a height of 148 meters, the Queue d'Ane takes on the Ruisseau de la Benché, which drains south-east, from the right .

geology

The Queue d'Ane runs entirely in the metamorphic basement of the northwestern Massif Central . Its headwaters lie in mica schists of the parautochthonous mica schist unit , which it follows for around 7.5 kilometers to shortly after Vieille Abbaye . It then meets structurally higher rocks of the lower gneiss cover . At the beginning it crosses the alternating orthogneiss and leptynite of the Dronne arch , former sub-alkaline leuco granites and their arcs . It then crosses the paragneiss typical of the lower gneiss cover and from Le Brégère the leptynites of the Suquet massif , formerly acidic volcanic rocks . This is followed by paragneisses and then leptynites of the Arch of Saint-Yrieix , which emerged from Ordovician granites . After a short passage through mica slate, you will be accompanied on the last 2 kilometers by quite rare peridotites ( serpentinites ) of the Rebière massif , which emerged from Harzburgites . The edge fault of the crystalline central massif , which is drawn in from the northeast, crosses directly at the mouth with an entrained band of mica slate. Particularities encountered are a lamprophyre dike near Les Riffes , pegmatites near Vauriac and Le Suquet and former dolerites (now amphibolitized ) in the leptynites of the Suquet massif . The foliation of the metamorphic rocks is generally flat (up to 30 °) with dips in the northern section to the east-southeast and in the south section to the southeast.

Compared to the Kristallin, the river cut by up to 100 meters. Starting from vielle Abbaye , the valley lowlands are filled with recent alluvial sediments.

Hydrology

The confluence of the Côle and the Queue d'Ane coming from the right

The catchment area of the Queue d'Ane is 47 square kilometers. Their average gradient is 8.33 meters per kilometer.

ecology

The valley of the Queue d'Ane was placed under protection as a first-order ecotope ( French ZNIEFF - zone naturelle d'interêt faunistique et floristique ). Some of the flora in the gorge locations shows some very rare species that can be assigned to the alpine level. Overall, the valley is still in a very pristine and natural state and apart from Saint-Martin-de-Fressengeas (which is one kilometer to the west) there are no significant settlements.
