Quitzow is a district of the town of Perleberg in the Brandenburg district of Prignitz . The place has 310 inhabitants. Angela Merkel lived in Quitzow for three years shortly after her birth, after her parents moved from Hamburg .

geography

The Quitzow district is about 3.5 kilometers northwest of the Perleberg town center. The Perleberg districts of Schönfeld in the north, Wüsten-Buchholz and Groß Buchholz in the northeast and Sükow in the southwest are also adjacent . In the northwest, Quitzow borders the municipality of Karstädt .

The southeast border of Quitzow runs partly along the historic Perleberger Landwehr. The Perlhof location is on the Perleberger side . Near this, at the source of the pearl , remains of the Landwehr are still preserved.

In the south, the Henningshof residential area is on the Quitzower side of the old Landwehr, but is now part of the core town of Perleberg.

history

The Angerdorf Quitzow itself is first documented in 1299 ( Quitsow ). The name is of Slavic origin. In the literature it is sometimes assumed that the noble family von Quitzow , first documented in 1271, derived its name from this place. However, it is more likely that the family was named after Quitzöbel on the Elbe. Around 1200, however, Quitzow came as a fief to Johan Gerold and Henning von Quitzow, who were vassals in the service of Johannes Gans zu Perleberg , and should have received their names. In 1384 the Havelberg bishop awarded Wedego von Quitzow (first documented mention in 1379 Knappe at Quitzow Castle) the manor Rühstädt ; Wedego then sold the Quitzow estate to the von Platen family in 1386 .

In the 20th century, Quitzow was a stop on the Westprignitzer Kreisringbahn. Their operation was given up in 1975. In 2003 the last track sections were dismantled.

In the GDR , the transit road Hamburg – West Berlin ran through Quitzow with trunk road 5 until 1982 . The only rest stop on the route was in Quitzow. She owned an Intershop .

On July 3, 1972, Schönfeld and Groß Buchholz were incorporated into Quitzow. On December 6, 1993, Quitzow was incorporated into the district town of Perleberg.

Economy and Infrastructure

The commercial and industrial area Perleberg OT Quitzow covers 67 hectares. Numerous companies are based here. Another industrial park is being built on the border between Quitzow and the core town of Perleberg.

traffic

Bundesstrasse 5 and Brandenburger Landesstrasse 10 run through Quitzow. Bundesstrasse 189 only just passes the town.

Buildings

The church in Quitzow was built in several construction phases. The oldest part is dated to the late 13th century.
