Rödgen was first mentioned in 1350 under the then name Rotikin. The manor Schenkenberg had until 1747 . Until 1815 Rödgen belonged to the electoral office of Delitzsch . As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the place became part of Prussia and was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony in 1816, to which it belonged until 1952. In the course of the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Rödgen was assigned to the newly tailored Delitzsch district in the Leipzig district, which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 .

In 1950 Rödgen was incorporated into Schenkenberg and later in 1996 to Delitzsch. Rödgen belongs to the category of the street village to the special form street perimeter village and in 1895 had an area of 494 ha .

A legend tells about a little girl who was taken in by the innkeeper of the then still independent village of Kahlhausen. Today the village of Kahlhausen no longer exists because it is now part of Rödgen, but a street name reminds of it.

The foundling from Kahlhausen

We all have at least one first name. Whether we like it or not - we weren't asked. Our parents gave it to us. There are probably no limits to the naming. Not only German, but also English, French, Russian or Danish first names are popular today. The children cannot defend themselves against it. Later in school, they may have difficulty spelling their names correctly at the beginning.

The vernacular is much more poetic. Just think of the nicknames that some wearers have with humor throughout their lives. We recorded them in the village chronicle in Schenkenberg. Because that is also part of folklore.

More than 200 years ago we had a girl who had no name, not even a family name. As a church book tells us, it happened like this: "On February 19, 1777, a newly born maiden in Kahlhausen was found fresh and healthy in a box in the tavern - outside in the window. A young mother probably abandoned it. Back then it was a flaw to give birth to a child as an unmarried person. In the eyes of the inhabitants she was immoral, which was held against her or her life. Kahlhausen used to be an independent village, later it came to Rödgen bei Delitzsch. Although it did Consisting of only a few houses, it had a tavern, which not only had a dining room, but also a cute hall on the upper floor.

The house, one of the oldest in town, still stands today and houses two families. 200 years ago there was a constant coming and going here, as the "Salt Road" led past Halle to the east in the immediate vicinity. That is why the newborn was probably abandoned here as well. It's good that there were compassionate people even then. This also included Johann Christoph Thebis, neighbor, resident and innkeeper of Kahlhausen. He took the child and had it baptized the next day in the church in Schenkenberg in the name of Johanna Rosina. There were three witnesses. In order to give the child a surname, it was baptized Findlingin. It's a shame it lost this poetic name at the wedding. But this is also how names tell local history.
