The first mention of the place comes from 1336. Röthenbach is laid out as a Waldhufendorf and in 1764 belonged to the Dippoldiswalde office . Already in 1445 the administration was with the care Freiberg . In 1555 the Pretzschendorf manor ruled, and Röthenbach has been an official village since 1764. In 1856 Röthenbach was part of the Frauenstein court office , and in 1875 it was part of the Dippoldiswalde administration . In 1952 Röthenbach became part of the Dippoldiswalde district as an independent municipality . On August 1, 1973, it was incorporated into Pretzschendorf. From 1994, the site was part of the district of Dippoldiswalde and district Freital formed Weißeritz circle . In August 2008, this was then merged with the Saxon Switzerland district to form the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district. Röthenbach has been part of the Klingenberg community since December 31, 2012, after Pretzschendorf merged with Höckendorf .
