RRC "Günther 1921" Cologne-Longerich
The cycling club "Günther 1921" eV Köln-Longerich was a cycling club in Cologne until 2018, which was based in the Cologne district of Longerich .
history
The association was founded in 1921. In memory of the Cologne cyclist Peter Günther , who died in an accident in 1918 , he was given the suffix "Günther". In the 1920s, the brothers Adolf and Christian Pützfeld, who were among the founding members, were the most famous drivers. In 1933 the association was banned. After the Second World War , the Tour de France participant and standing world champion Wilfried Peffgen , the German champion Friedhelm Fischerkeller and tandem world champion Hans-Jürgen Greil came from the club. Other well-known members are the sisters Gabi and Beate Habetz , Gina Haatz, Andreas Kappes and the long-time national coach Jochen Dornbusch . From 2001 to 2006 the Marcel-Wüst-Juniorteam existed , which was supervised by Werner Stauff and Werner Wüller and which u. a. Andreas Stauff and Maurice Calles come from.
Since 1952, the association has organized the circuit race “Around Cologne-Longerich” on Whit Monday , which was later renamed “Cologne Classic”. Sports director until 2011 was Marcel Wüst , who won the race twice, and since then Ralf Grabsch . In 2015 and 2016 a Paracycling European Cup and the German Paracycling Championships took place as part of the “Cologne Classic” .
In 2011 the association had around 200 members, making it one of the largest in the Cologne district; The chairman was Gino Baudrie. At the end of 2018, the club merged with the then oldest Cologne cycling club RC Durch and the racing community of the Heinrich-Böll-Gesamtschule . The new club is called Cologne Cycling Club . It is chaired by Baudrie, Thomas Müller, formerly RC Durch , and Werner Schleicher from the comprehensive school.
From 2015, races at state level and European Cup races in Paracycling (in Elsdorf ) were also held as part of the three-day competitions .
