Radsberg ( Slovenian : Radiše ) is a village in the market town of Ebenthal in Carinthia , Klagenfurt-Land district . The village has 95 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). Radsberg was a separate municipality until it was incorporated into Ebenthal in 1973, comprising the villages of Lipizach / Lipica, Tutzach / Tuce, Werouzach / Verovce, Schwarz / Dvorec, Kossiach / Kozje and Ober- and Unterkreuth / Zgornje in Spodnje Rute.
The village is located in the eastern part of the 750 m high plateau of the same name in Radsberg. It is a hamlet, whose mighty church with the rectory, Karner and parts of the rectory is located on an elongated lateral moraine of the Ice Age Wörthersee glacier at an altitude of 748 m . To the west of the church is the old town with the farms. On the edge of the cleared island there are several chaste and workers' housing estates in the west and north . Mighty forests surround Radsberg in all directions. They always played an important role in the history of the delivery of firewood to Klagenfurt and the removal of litter for livestock farming, later mainly as a capital base for investments in agriculture.
Slovenian cultural history and life on the Radsberg
The eastern area of the Sattnitz is developed from the Klagenfurt field and is part of its Slovene dialect area (the dialect of the Poljanci from the Klagenfurt field). At the beginning of the 20th century, the Radsberg area was largely Slovenian-speaking. Today the parish Radsberg / Radiše is bilingual and Slovenian is a subject.
The Slovene cultural association Katoliško slovensko izobraževalno društvo na Radišah (Catholic Slovene Educational Association on the Radsberg), founded in 1904 as part of an all-South Carinthian Slovene cultural movement, was of particular importance for the preservation and maintenance of the Slovene language and identity . One of the first Tamburizza ensembles was part of the association . Special attention was also paid to the theater and amateur play and the choir singing, which had already been cultivated beforehand . Educational events, a library and social get-togethers rounded off the offer. In particular, pieces with a political content were performed in response to the growing discrimination of the time, which brought Slovenian cultural work to a complete standstill after 1920. It was not until 1929 that there was a fundamental renewal of the club life, which has had its current name since then: Slovensko prosvetno društvo Radiše. The massive persecution and deportation of Slovenes as well as the prohibition of the Slovenian language during the Second World War not only meant a (temporary) end to Slovenian cultural work, but also posed an existential threat to the Slovenes themselves - many local Slovenes were forcibly deported and used for forced labor , so some did not come back. The deported Slovenes from Carinthia were given a memorial in Radsberg in 1996 to “remember the past” and as a “reminder for the future”.
After the liberation in 1945, organized cultural life began to develop again and since 1947 81 plays have been performed. Choir singing and various other activities complete the offer. Phonograms were also released. In 1979 the Slovenian House of Culture was inaugurated and has served as the home of the Slovenian cultural association SPD Radiše ever since .
The Slovenian dialect
The old municipality of Radsberg (together with the municipality of Ebenthal in Carinthia ) belongs to the Slovenian dialect area of the Klagenfurt field ( poljanski govor oz. Poljanščina Celovškega Polja ), which is a transition dialect between the Slovenian dialects of the Jaun Valley ( podjunščina ) and the Rosental Valley ( rožanščina ). Johann Scheinigg identified it as a special variant of the Slovenian Rosental dialect in 1882, which was confirmed in the dialectological study by Katja Sturm-Schnabl based on field research.
In 2014, the spoken Slovenian dialect in its current form was published in dialectal episodes and cheerful village stories by Tomaž Ogris in book form and on CD-ROM in the book Vamprat pa Hana .
