Rage , also sold as New York Fashion Murder in Germany, is a film by the English director Sally Potter , who also wrote the script and directed the camera. The film premiered on February 8, 2009 at the 59th Berlinale .

action

Over a period of seven days, a young blogger who calls himself Michelangelo films 14 very different characters in a New York fashion house. Among them are the fashion designer Merlin, the model Lettuce Leaf, Minx (a supermodel), Edith Roth (the managing director and former owner of the fashion house), Tiny Diamonds (the financier / main shareholder of the fashion house), his bodyguard Jed, Anita de Los Angeles (a Seamstress), Dwight Angel (an employee of the fashion house), Bradley White (the marketing consultant), Vijay (a pizza delivery man), Frank (a former war photographer), Mona Carvell (a critic) and Otto (the chief of public relations for the fashion house) . Michelangelo introduces himself to the interviewees as a schoolboy who needs the recordings for a project at his school.

One of the models is killed during the first show in which Merlin's new collection is to be shown. Detective Homer starts the investigation. He should clarify whether it is a murder case. While the accident is received with great concern by most of the interviewees, Tiny Diamonds and Otto soon see it as a way to get the show more exposure.

The performance should definitely be repeated. But there are further incidents, which is why the show has to be canceled several times and a total of five dates were set by the end of the film. Not least because of the images that Michelangelo publishes on his website, there are increasing protests against the fashion show and the associated public relations work. The final demonstration ends in a disaster with protesters entering the building and firing again.

Reviews

“Stars like Jude Law, Steve Buscemi or Judi Dench in a crime thriller about the murder during a fashion show: That sounds promising. But the actors tell the story straight into the camera like in an interview. The experiment by Sally Potter (" Orlando ") may be regarded as high film art, but it quickly becomes tiring. "

production

According to Sally Potter, all actors received the same (minimum) fee.

Filming

The shots of the film show one of the characters over the full length in front of a colored background that was realized with the help of blue screen technology . It was only during the course of work on the script that Sally Potter made the decision not to shoot in different locations, but always to film in the same location with the same minimalist studio setting.

Film premiere

Rage is the first film to premiere on cell phones worldwide. Starting September 21, 2009, Rage was shown in seven episodes on seven consecutive days of Babelgum . As of September 28, 2009, Rage was made available online for free in seven episodes.
