Rammstein is a song of the same name German New German Hardness - band Rammstein . It was written by Rammstein and produced by Jacob Hellner and Carl-Michael Herlöffson. The song was released on September 24, 1995 on their first studio album Herzeleid . A music video was also released in 1997 .

background

According to Christoph Schneider, the song marks the birth of the band Rammstein. The text is the only one that was written by all members together. It was created in a village pub in Hohen Viecheln , the then home of Till Lindemann .

At concerts Till Lindemann lit up during the song. The lit coat was made of asbestos . In later live performances, he wore two large claws on stage, which emitted fountains of fire during the song.

The piece was already included on the band's 1994 demo tape. In contrast to the other songs that were later released on the debut album Herzeleid , the song already had the title in demo times that it also bears on the album.

The song itself is about the Ramstein air conference , which killed 70 people in August 1988. While writing together, the band members were guided by their spontaneous associations with what was happening:

"Rammstein
A person burns
Rammstein The
smell of meat is in the air
Rammstein
A child dies
Rammstein
The sun is shining"

- Text excerpt from Rammstein

The accident inspired the band to call themselves “Rammstein Flugschau”, later “Rammstein” for short - in contrast to the city of Ramstein . The second "m" was a typo - the members assumed that Ramstein was spelled with two "m".

Music video

The music video for Rammstein was shot by Alexander Herzog and Kai Kniepkamp and published in 1997. It contains scenes from the film Lost Highway by director David Lynch , on whose soundtrack the song was also included.

It begins with the view of a night highway from a moving car. Then the band is shown performing the song at a live concert, with Till Lindemann partially on fire. The film scenes faded in from time to time revolve around love relationships, jealousy and violence.

Rammstein is the only song in the group that has been video-shot even though it did not appear as a single .
