Petrol is a song by the German metal band Rammstein . It is the first single from the Rosenrot album and was released on October 7, 2005. The song was played for the first time in Berlin's Wuhlheide on June 23, 2005.
According to Oliver Riedel and Christian Lorenz , the lyrics to the song were written at the request of rhythm guitarist Paul Landers . He suggested to singer and lyricist Till Lindemann in 1999 that he write a song about gasoline because he liked the word. Lindemann had previously asked his bandmates to make text suggestions so that the entire responsibility for the Rammstein lyrics would not rest with him.

Music video
The video was released on September 16, 2005. The three-day shooting took place in mid-August 2005 under the direction of Uwe Flade. Parts were filmed in the listed Schillerpark fire station in Berlin-Wedding .
The video shows five band members as shabby and chaotic firefighters doing more harm than good. In computer-animated video sequences, they drive to an operation in a two-story high fire truck, which is based on a W50 produced in the GDR , and demolish everything that comes in their way. When they reach their destination, they see bandmate Flake , who is standing on a high-rise and is about to jump. In order to save him, a jumping mat is stretched, but it tears after Flake jumped in the last scene of the video.
Flake was sick during the video shoot and was therefore doubled . The skyscraper in the video is Die Pyramid in Berlin.
Live performance
At concerts since 2009, Rammstein staged a show during the live performance of the song, in which a stuntman disguised as a fan climbs onto the stage and is lit by singer Till Lindemann with a flamethrower that comes from the nozzle of a gas pump.
