Radio is a song by the German band Rammstein that was released on April 26, 2019 as the second single from the album Rammstein . The song was written by the band and produced by them with Olsen Involtini .
Music and lyrics
Among other things, the song pays homage to the band Kraftwerk , especially to their song Radioactivity . The Rolling Stone called it a pop song . In terms of the text - for example with the line “This is how I hear what I can't see / quiet, secret distant pain” - it is about times when listening to “hostile” radio stations was forbidden. That affects the Third Reich as well as the band's past in the GDR .
Music video
The music video, shot in black and white, shows the band dressed in the style of the 1930s in a broadcasting house. The band broadcasts their song via Volksempfänger . Soldiers storm the hall, the song leads them to a choreographed dance. In between, the band can be seen - “in robot-like Kraftwerk manner as a digital projection surface that intervenes in the story, but is not tangible to the touch.” The director was Joern Heitmann .
reception
The single reached high chart positions, number four in Germany and Hungary , number 13 in Austria and number 17 in Switzerland . The Rolling Stone wrote: "The song is oblique satire which holds a mirror or the radio society. And also a settlement with dictatorships like the GDR. "
