Ashes to Ashes is a song by German New German Hardness - band Rammstein . It was written by Rammstein and produced by Jacob Hellner and Carl-Michael Herlöffson. The song originally appeared on their first studio album Herzeleid on September 24, 1995 . On August 30, 1999, ashes to ashes as Promo - Single released to the simultaneously released live album Live from Berlin to apply. In addition, the song was released on January 15, 2001 exclusively in Australia as a single for the associated Rammstein tour.

Musically, Asche zu Asche mixes metal with electronic music and sound effects. So are included throughout hard guitar riffs in the song, with a long sustained by fundamentals underlying (H - G - A) Synthesizer - Pattern Change.
The lyrics are written from the first person perspective and allude to the crucifixion of Jesus :
"Now I'm lying on the cross.
You drive my nails in.
The fire washes the soul clean
And what remains is a mouthful of ashes"
Due to his wrongful conviction, the protagonist swears revenge:
"Secretly I will rise
and you will beg for mercy
Then I kneel in your face
and stick my finger in the ashes"

A live video was released on Asche zu Asche , which was taken from the DVD version of the album Live from Berlin . It was recorded in August 1998 at a concert on the Berlin Parkbühne Wuhlheide .
