Career

Clubs

Raphaël Joly, who comes from the capital of the Dutch province of North Brabant , began his career as an ice hockey player with various Canadian youth teams. He spent his first senior season in 2009/10 with Caron & Guay de Trois-Rivières in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey . In 2010 he moved to the honor division , the top division of his Dutch homeland. First he played there with the reigning champions Nijmegen Devils . In the following year, the team no longer took part in the honor division and so Joly switched to the Tilburg Trappers . Even there it only lasted a year, but was the top scorer in the honor division. For the season 2012/13 he moved to The Hague for HYS The Hague . With the team from the provincial capital of South Holland , he won the Dutch championship title after three final victories over his previous club from Tilburg and was awarded the “Jack de Heer-Trofee” as the top scorer in the league as in the following year. In 2014 he was again top scorer in the honor division. Then he moved to Germany to the Füchsen Duisburg , for whom he played in the major league for four years . In 2015 he was able to win the western season with the team von der Wedau and reach the final of the German league championship, which was lost with 2: 3 wins against EHC Freiburg . In the following year - the Oberliga had now only been combined into two seasons - he and his team won the main round of the northern season, but already lost in the elimination playoffs against the Icefighters Leipzig , who had only finished the main round in eighth place, with 1 : 3 wins out. For the 2018/19 season, Joly moved within the major league to MEC Hall 04 .

International

Joly made his debut in the first round of Olympic qualification for the 2014 Sochi Games in the national team of his country in November 2012 . Thanks to a 7: 6 success after a penalty shootout in the decisive game against hosts Hungary , to which Joly also contributed a goal, the Dutch qualified for the second round of the Olympic qualification in February 2013 in Bietigheim-Bissingen , where they played against Austria , Germany and Italy, however, were losing out. In April 2013 he also took part in the World Cup for the first time , where he competed in Division I with his national team. He made his second appearance at a world championship in 2016 in Division II, to which the Dutch were relegated the previous year. Behind his compatriot Erik Tummers , he was the second best scorer of the tournament together with his compatriots Kevin Bruijsten and Alan van Bentem as well as the Belgian Ben van den Bogaert and thus made a significant contribution to the Oranjes' immediate resurgence in Division I. After the Dutch were relegated again in 2017 without Joly, he succeeded in direct promotion for the second time at the World Cup of Division II in 2018 .
