The Reasi District is a district in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
The district was created on April 1, 2007 as a split from what was then the Udhampur district . The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Reasi . The Reasi district extends over the southern edge of the Pir Panjal . The river Chanab leaves the mountains near Reasi. Above the city of Reasi, the Chanab is dammed by the Salal dam . In the south, the district comprises part of the upstream Siwalik chains .
The district has an area of 1517 km² and a population of 314,667 (2011 census). In 2001 the population was 247,694. The population density is 207 inhabitants per square kilometer.
The district is divided into two tehsils : Gool-Gulabgarh and Reasi.
