Government of Holt II
The Holt II government ruled Australia from December 14, 1966 to December 19, 1967. It was a coalition government of the Liberal Party (LP) and the Country Party (CP).
Harold Holt became Prime Minister on January 26, 1966, following the resignation of Harold Menzies . In the parliamentary elections on November 26, 1966 , the ruling coalition expanded its majority in the House of Representatives . The Liberal Party received 61 and the County Party 21 of the 124 seats. Holt remained Prime Minister of a coalition of LP and CP. Holt disappeared on December 17, 1967 while swimming in the sea off the coast of Victoria. Deputy Prime Minister John McEwen of the Country Party was Prime Minister until a new chairman of the Liberal Party was elected.
