Jakob Hannibal II of Hohenems (* March 20, 1595 ; † April 10, 1646 ) was a count from the Hohenems family and a military leader in the Thirty Years' War .

Life

Jakob Hannibal II von Hohenems was the eldest son of Kaspar von Hohenems and his wife Eleonore Philippine von Welsperg (* 1573 - 4 January 1614), a daughter of Baron Christoph von Welsperg , a noble family from what is now South Tyrol . On June 30, 1616 he married Anna Sidonia , Duchess of Teschen (1598-1619). After the early death of his wife on March 13, 1619, he married the Hohenzollern Princess Franziska Katharina von Hohenzollern-Hechingen on December 7, 1619 . From this connection came the Hohenems heirs, Franz Wilhelm I von Hohenems and Karl Friedrich von Hohenems .

Jakob Hannibal II von Hohenems served as a colonel in the army of Leopold V of Austria during the Thirty Years' War . From December 1630 to the end of February 1631 he was in the retinue of Archduke Leopold V, who traveled from Innsbruck via Carinthia to Trieste and from there to Vienna . The purpose of the trip was to accompany the Spanish princess Maria Anna of Spain on the occasion of her marriage to Archduke Ferdinand III. of Austria , later Emperor of the Roman Empire of the German Nation . Extensive directions from him have been received from this period. On June 8 or 9, 1632, he and his wife were taken prisoner in Sweden . He was brought to Isny and then to Ulm .
