Josef I. Johann Adam (born May 27, 1690 in Vienna ; † December 17, 1732 in Feldsberg ) was the 6th Prince of Liechtenstein from 1721 to 1732.

biography

Josef was the only surviving son of Prince Anton Florian von Liechtenstein . He served in the imperial army at a young age and thus fought in the War of the Spanish Succession . In 1712 he was in the course of the coronation celebrations of Charles VI. appointed his chamberlain. A year later he was already promoted to principal commissioner at the Moravian state parliament.

Due to his origins and his military and political function, Josef Johann Adam von Liechtenstein was accepted into the Order of the Golden Fleece when he took office in 1721 . From 1723 he served as a privy councilor and opened as 1729 /30 as imperial principal commissioner of the Princes in Silesia .

Since Prince Josef was aiming for economic success, he generally stayed away from court and court service, as life and representation there was quite expensive. For he was a good and successful steward of his property. He appointed the very capable Karl Joseph von Gillern as the conducting councilor. As a level-headed ruler, he succeeded in calming and reconciling his family, which had fallen out over the legacy of Prince Johann Adam von Liechtenstein . That was urgently needed because his rule was in grave danger: If he had had to give up the inheritance, his legal claim to the Liechtenstein throne would have been null and void.

His grave is in the crypt of the House of Liechtenstein in Vranov (Moravia).
