The Rudd I government ruled Australia from December 3, 2007 to June 24, 2010. It was a Labor Party government .
John Howard had been Prime Minister of a coalition of Liberal Party and National Party since March 11, 1996. The parliamentary election on November 24, 2007 ended with a clear victory for the Labor Party , which won 83 of the 150 seats in the House of Representatives . Prime Minister Howard lost his parliamentary seat. In the Senate Labor won four mandates it, but reached 32 of 76 senators no majority. A laboratory government under Prime Minister Kevin Rudd followed . After a decline in the popularity of Rudd in the opinion polls, his deputy Julia Gillard challenged him and was elected the new Prime Minister by the Laboratory Group on June 24, 2010.
