The administrative district Litzmannstadt was referred to as the administrative district Kalisch until 1941 . From 1939 to 1940 it was an administrative district in the new Reichsgau Posen and from 1940 to 1945 an administrative district in the now renamed Reichsgau Wartheland . Today the area belongs to Poland .

The city of Litzmannstadt was designated as the seat of government . To the north, the district bordered the Hohensalza administrative district . The General Government was to the east and south . To the south and west lay Silesia and the administrative district of Posen .
