Substitute election 1903
After Rickert's death, a replacement had to be made. This took place on January 13, 1903. NLP, FVP and FVg agreed on the free-thinking candidate Mommsen. In return, de FVg should call for the election of the FVP candidate in the next state election. The center and the conservatives tried to agree on a common candidate. Since the common candidate Franz Lusensky was a member of the NLP and the latter had already committed to Mommsen, an agreement did not come about. The center did not nominate a candidate and called for abstention.

The Conservatives shared this position after no agreement had been reached that in return for support here, the Freedom Party should support the conservative candidate Doerksen in constituency 19 (Danzig-Land). The Progressive People's Party then sharply attacked the SPD in the election campaign in order to make the differences to the socialists clear.
