René Orlando Houseman , called El Loco (the crazy one), (born July 19, 1953 in La Banda , † March 22, 2018 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine football player .

He started his career at Defensores de Belgrano . He later played with Club Atlético Huracán , CA River Plate , Colo Colo (in Chile), AmaZulu Durban (in South Africa), CA Independiente and Excursionistas .

As a national player of Argentina Houseman took part in the 1974 World Cup in Germany, where he was used in all six matches of the Argentine team and scored three goals. His greatest achievement was winning the 1978 World Cup in his own country, where he scored a goal. He played a total of 53 international matches and scored 13 goals.

René Houseman died on March 22, 2018 of complications from cancer .
