Career

Player career

Luis Galván, who was born on February 24, 1948 in Fernández, a city in northwestern Argentina , began his football career with the CA Talleres club from Córdoba . At Talleres he played with other Argentinian football greats of the time such as José Daniel Valencia or Miguel Oviedo , but did not win the title with the club from the second largest city in Argentina. Twice Talleres missed the Argentine championship but only narrowly, in 1977 they finished second behind Independiente Avellaneda and in 1980 third behind River Plate and the Argentinos Juniors . Luis Galván played a total of twelve years for Talleres de Córdoba before he left the club in 1982 and joined the provincial club Loma Negra, which played first-class at the time. After a year in Olavarría , Galván went back to Córdoba and moved to CA Belgrano , where he moved to CA Central Norte after another year in Salta . He stayed there for another year. 1986 Galván changed again the club and joined the Club Bolívar from La Paz . After less than a year in Bolivia , he returned to his old club CA Talleres in 1986 and let his career in the Primera División end. In 1987 Luis Galván ended his active career.

National team

In the Argentine national soccer team , Luis Galván made 34 appearances between 1975 and 1982. Argentina's national coach César Luis Menotti called Galván into the squad for the 1978 World Cup in his own country. At the World Cup, Galván, who is not related to Rubén Galván , who was also in the squad for the World Cup, was used in all Argentine games. He was also in the final at the Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti in Buenos Aires when the Argentines won their first World Cup title 3-1 after extra time against the Netherlands . Even four years later at the World Cup in Spain , Galván was part of the South American squad . However, the tournament was not as successful as four years before, Argentina failed in the second round. This time too, Galván was part of the Menotti tribe. The defender was used in almost all games. The intermediate round match against Brazil (1: 3) in Barcelona not only meant the elimination of Argentina, but also the end of Galván's career in the national team. Like many world champions from 1978 such as Mario Kempes , Osvaldo Ardiles or Jorge Olguín , he ended his national team career after the 1982 World Cup.
