Daniel Pedro Killer (born December 21, 1949 in Rosario ) is a former Argentine football player. He took part in the 1978 World Cup with the national team of his home country and won the title.

Career

Club career

Daniel Killer, born on December 21, 1949 in Rosario, the third largest city in Argentina , began his football career in 1970 with Rosario Central . Already in his second season at Rosario Central, where he played with other Argentinian football greats of the time such as Mario Kempes , Leopoldo Luque or José van Tuyne , he won his first title. In the Nacional competition in 1971 they prevailed in the final with 2-1 against CA San Lorenzo de Almagro . Two years later, he achieved the second championship title in Argentine professional football. This time, Rosario Central finished first in the finals of the Nacional competition, two points ahead of CA River Plate . When he won the title in 1973, not only Daniel Killer, but also his brother Mario in the roster of Rosario Central. Daniel Killer, who acted in the position of defender, stayed with Rosario Central until 1976 before he moved to the Racing Club from Avellaneda , an industrial suburb of Buenos Aires . After two years and 77 games at Racing Club, he went back to Rosario and joined the Newell's Old Boys . In three years he made 117 appearances, but did not win the title. In 1982 he left the club and played for five different clubs over the next five years. CA Vélez Sársfield from Buenos Aires, Atlético Bucaramanga from Colombia , Estudiantes de La Plata , Unión de Santa Fe and Argentino de Rosario followed one after the other . There he ended his active career in 1987 at the age of 38. Today Daniel Killer owns a small indoor sports facility in western Rosario.

National team

In the Argentine national soccer team , Daniel Killer played 22 games between 1972 and 1978, in which he scored three goals; all in the 1975 Copa América first round 11-0 win over Venezuela, Argentina's second-highest win after a 12-0 win in 1942 over Ecuador. After two defeats against Brazil, Argentina was eliminated.

Argentina coach César Luis Menotti also nominated him for the South American squad for the 1978 World Cup in his own country. At the World Cup, however, Killer only acted as a reserve player, he was not even used. Meanwhile, his teammates won the world title with a 3-1 after extra time in the final at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires against the Netherlands . After the World Cup, Killer's career in the national team ended.
