Ricardo Julio "Ricky" Villa (born August 18, 1952 in Buenos Aires ) is a former Argentinian soccer player .

Player career

He began his career in Argentina in 1970 and last played there in 1978 for the Racing Club Buenos Aires . After winning the World Cup in 1978 with the Argentine national team in his own country, he moved together with Osvaldo Ardiles to England to Tottenham Hotspur , for which he scored 18 goals in 133 league games until 1983. In the final of the FA Cup 1981 he scored two goals for a 3-2 win over Manchester City . During this time, the bearded midfielder had T-shirts made and distributed with his image, which were based on the legendary photo of Che Guevara . He moved to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in 1983 and let his career fade away from 1984 to 1989 in lower-class Argentine clubs.

In the 1990s, Villa tried his hand at being a politician. Since 2005 he has been working again as a sports director in the football business.
