Rubén Galván (born April 7, 1952 in Comandante Fontana , † March 14, 2018 ) was an Argentine football player . With the national team of his home country he won the title at the Football World Cup in 1978 .

Club career

Rubén Galván began his football career in 1971 with the CA Independiente club from Avellaneda , an industrial suburb of the capital Buenos Aires . In his second season at Independiente, Galván won the Copa Libertadores , the most important competition for club teams in South America, with the club . However, he was rarely used in the course of the tournament . By triumphing in the Libertadores Cup, you were qualified for the same competition the next year. Again the Copa Libertadores was won by Independiente, this time they won the final against the Chilean representative CSD Colo-Colo . Rubén Galván was used in the playoff of the final, where Independiente secured the triumph with a 2-1 after extra time at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo . In 1974 Independiente won again in the Libertadores Cup and Rubén Galván was part of the main lineup of the Argentines who won the final against São Paulo FC from Brazil . In 1975 he was in the fourth and, for the time being, last victory in the Copa Libertadores again with the game and was used in all three final games against Unión Española from Chile . In total, Galván had won the Copa Libertadores four times with CA Independiente. But they were not only successful at the continental level. In 1977 and 1978 there were two national championships. The Independiente team in the Argentine at the time football greats such as Daniel Bertoni , Omar Larrosa or Ricardo Bochini played, won both in 1977 and in 1978 the National competition . Two years after his last championship title with Independiente, Galván left the club and joined Estudiantes de La Plata . He ended his career there in 1980 at the age of only 27.

National team

In the Argentina national football team Rubén Galván was used three times between 1974 and 1978. In these games he failed to score. Argentina coach César Luis Menotti nominated him for the South American squad for the 1978 World Cup in his own country. In the tournament, which the Argentines finally won 3-1 after extra time against the Netherlands in the final , he was not used.
