Rent wall Dattenberg

The Rentmauer Dattenberg is a former fortification of unknown time about 1.5 km southwest of the Glashüttener district Schloßborn in the Hochtaunuskreis . It is located on the summit of the Dattenberg and is in the nature reserve "Rentmauer - Dattenberg".

Fortification

The Burgstall is located on a ridge that is only flatly connected to the hinterland in the north. To the west, south and east, the terrain slopes steeply into the Schlossborner and Dattenbachtal valley.

Today there is only little evidence of the existence of the complex in the form of scattered wall stones. In contrast, in 1879 Karl August von Cohausen recognized an oval wall measuring 300 to 120 paces, which enclosed the rock head. Even in 1909 Christian Ludwig Thomas could no longer recognize this ring wall. To do this, he found podiums on the south-western slope that indicate settlement. He made out two terraced walls that secured this settlement to the north.

Monument protection

The area of the ramparts is a ground monument according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act . Investigations and targeted collection of finds are subject to approval, and accidental finds are reported to the monument authorities.

The mountain

The Dattenberg is the rocky extension of the Butznickel . The name is derived from the Dattenbach , which flows below the 446.5 meter high mountain. The source of the Dattenbach on the lowest southern slope of the Dattenberg was set in natural stone on June 1, 1968. The southern slope of Dattenberg is called Rentmauer. The origin of the name is unclear. Hermin Herr suspects that it could be derived from "Grenzmauer".

Nature reserve

Since 1974 an area of 10.46 hectares has been under nature protection under the name "Rentmauer - Dattenberg". It is an FFH area.
