The Hinterste Neuwiese near Kronberg is a nature reserve in Kronberg im Taunus in the Hochtaunus district . It is a Natura 2000 area.

The nature reserve

The nature reserve with a size of 12.58 hectares was placed under protection in 1989. The nature reserve consists of areas of the district “Hinterste Neuwiese” of the city of Kronberg and “Kellergrund” of the district of Oberhöchstadt . These are wet meadows with reed beds, alder forests, wet depressions and rich occurrences of rare and endangered plant species as well as the habitat of similar bird and amphibian species.

The Hinterste Neuwiese is located above the B455 on the slope of the Hünerberg .

history

The forest meadows were won by clearing in the Middle Ages. Within the Kronberger Mark , this was the furthest "new meadow" that was made usable for agriculture in this way. The field name is derived from this. The area in question was used for agriculture. The town's garbage dump was located directly next to it . In the area protection map of Hesse from 1977, published by the Hessian Minister for Agriculture and Environment, the area was entered as "open area to be kept free because of its importance for climate, species, biotope protection, recreation or landscape" with the symbol: K = climate.

In 1978 the Hessian Minister for State Development, Environment, Agriculture and Forests published a decree after the Hesse biotope mapping , i.e. a mapping of areas worthy of protection in Hesse, should be created. On this basis, the District Directorate for Forests and Nature Conservation (BFN) should work out a biotope protection and development concept for nature reserves and natural monuments.

In the draft of the protected area, the Hinterste Neuwiese received level 2 in the three priority levels (1 - priority, 2 - urgent, 3 - less urgent). The responsible forestry office in Königstein contradicted this classification in its letter of March 15, 1983.

“(The Hinterste Neuwiese) revolves around rare plant species and an untouched wet meadow biotope. For this reason, protection is urgently required, especially since in the edge of the forest towards the development, constant use by other uses is to be expected. However, I consider the expulsion to be extremely difficult, since here too the ownership structures conflict with this, namely for reasons of the splitting of property into private hands. Contrary to your opinion that the designation priority should be designated with 2, I consider the highest level of urgency for the declaration as a nature reserve to be appropriate. "

After reports about the construction of a drainage ditch that would have made the area drier, the BFN issued a security order on October 17, 1985 pursuant to Section 18 (1) HeNatG for a period of 3 years with the possibility of a two-year extension.

An owner of a part of the area and the operator of the (now closed) garbage dump sued this ordinance, the legality of which was confirmed by the Hessian administrative court.
