Rhonda Jones (born March 30, 1979 in Bellshill ) is a Scottish former football player . The defender played from 1998 to 2013 for the Scottish national football team and most recently in 2016 for the Scottish club Glasgow Rangers .

Career

Rhonda Jones attended Brannock High School and played three years for Motherwell Rovers at the age of 13 and at Ayr United at 16, where she played with the later Scottish top scorer Julie Fleeting . In 2000 she received a scholarship from Florida Atlantic University and played for the Florida Atlantic Owls, for which she received several awards. After completing her degree in graphic design, she stayed in Florida and played in the USL W-League for Central Florida Krush, Cocoa Expos and Tampa Bay Hellenic. In 2008 she returned to Scotland and played for Hibernian Edinburgh with whom she won the Scottish Cup in 2010 and the Scottish League Cup in 2011. This was followed by a brief engagement with the Doncaster Rovers Belles for the second half of the season. Then she played again in Scotland, now for Celtic. She has been playing for Glasgow City LFC since 2015 . With City she reached the quarter-finals of the 2014/15 UEFA Women's Champions League . There they had no chance against Paris Saint-Germain .

National team

Jones made his debut for the Scottish women's national soccer team on May 3, 1998 against Estonia in qualifying for the 1999 World Cup . Her first international goal she scored on April 17, 1999 to equalize 1-1 with North Korea in the semi-finals of the Albena Cup . The Scottish women won the subsequent penalty shootout 3-0, but then lost the final against Russia .

During her university days in Florida, she did not play for the national team.

In December 2011 she was one of the Scottish players who were considered for Team GB , who were to represent the United Kingdom at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . Ultimately, however, it was not taken into account.

On May 9, 2012, she made her 100th international match in a friendly against Poland . She last played against Wales on April 7, 2013 . She scored four goals in 117 international matches.

For a European Championship or World Cup finals, she could not qualify with Scotland. In qualifying for the EM 2009 they failed in the playoffs to Russia , in the qualification for the EM 2013 in the playoffs with a last-minute goal to Spain .
