The Town of Richwood is located in southwest Wisconsin, on the north bank of the Wisconsin River , a left tributary of the Mississippi . The Iowa border is 45 km to the west. After Minnesota is about 75 km west-north-west; to Illinois it is about 100 km to the south.

The Wisconsin State Highway 60 runs along the Wisconsin River. County Highway X leaves the Town of Richwood over a bridge over the Wisconsin River in the direction of neighboring Grant County to the south. In addition, the County Highways F, S and M run through the area of the town. All other roads are subordinate country roads and some unpaved roads.
With Richland Airport there is a small airfield around 40 km east of the town. The nearest commercial airports are Dubuque Regional Airport in Iowa (around 110 km south), La Crosse Regional Airport (around 110 km northwest) and Dane County Regional Airport in Wisconsin's capital Madison (around 120 km east-southeast).
