Career
Berry began his career in the Canadian Junior League WHL with the Seattle Thunderbirds . There he played with Patrick Marleau and Mark Parrish . In the 1997 NHL Entry Draft , the left shooter was selected in the third round in 55th place by the Colorado Avalanche . From 1998 to 2000, Berry initially played exclusively in the Colorado farm team , the Hershey Bears , in the American Hockey League , before making his debut in the NHL in the 2000/01 season . The following year, the defender was an integral part of the NHL team from Denver , but finally moved in March 2002 as part of a swap deal to the Pittsburgh Penguins , where he ended the season. For the 2002/03 season , the American signed a contract with the Washington Capitals , for which he could score his only goals in the NHL.
In the following season Berry went in addition to the NHL in the AHL for the Portland Pirates , the Capitals farm team. This season, the American played his last appearances in the highest North American professional league. and then played in the AHL for the Utah Grizzlies , San Antonio Rampage and Milwaukee Admirals , before signing a contract with the New York Islanders in 2006 . However, there was no use for the Islanders in the NHL, so Berry was used again in the AHL, this time with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , the farm team of the Islanders. In the summer of 2007, the defender moved to the Springfield Falcons , where he completed his ninth AHL season.
For the 2008/09 season , Rick Berry signed a contract with EV Duisburg from the German Ice Hockey League , for which he went on the ice until its bankruptcy.
