history
The Juniors Riga was founded in 1993 and initially took part in the Latvian ice hockey championship . With the establishment of the East European Hockey League , the Juniors were accepted into this multinational league and were able to reach the runner-up in the first season. At the same time, the juniors reached the playoff semi-finals in the Latvian championship. A year later, the Juniors were in fifth place after the main round of the EEHL. In the quarter-finals the team first defeated Tiwali Minsk , in the semi-finals Polimir Navapolazk and in the final it met HK Sokol Kiev . In the final series of five games, the Juniors were able to defeat the Ukrainian team 3-2 and thus reached the EEHL championship.
With the victory in the EEHL, the Juniors qualified for the IIHF Continental Cup 1997 , in which they reached the third qualifying round.
Before the following season a new sponsor could be won, so that the team was renamed to Juniors Essamika Riga. The main round of the 1997/98 season finished the team in fourth place, the championship round was also finished in fourth place. Due to financial problems, the men's team stopped playing in 1998. A syndicate with LB Prizma Riga , which consisted mainly of junior players, took part in the Latvian ice hockey league under the name LB / Essamika / Juniors-82 Riga and came in fourth.
In the 1999/2000 season, the team returned as Juniors / Essamika Riga once again in the Latvian Championship and EEHL Division B before the club was finally dissolved. As a result, the HK Riga 2000 was created, to which many players of the Juniors switched.
