Career
Cowie began his career on the college team with the Northeastern University Huskies in the National Collegiate Athletic Association , for which he went on the ice a total of four seasons. In those years he scored 46 goals and prepared 96. With 142 points in 139 games, he was the team's second best scorer. His accomplishments earned him three nominations for the Hockey East and NCAA All-Star teams.
After college, the defender signed with the Winnipeg Jets , but only appeared on their farm team - the Moncton Hawks - in the American Hockey League . In 1993 he was signed by the Springfield Indians , where he was nominated for the All-Star Game thanks to his 74 scorer points. In the following season, Cowie signed a contract with the Los Angeles Kings , for which he played 78 games between the 1994/95 and 1995/96 season and was able to post 19 points scorer. In addition, he was used in the minor leagues in the team of the Phoenix Roadrunners from the International Hockey League .
After a season in the National League A , he moved to the German Ice Hockey League in 1997 for the Eisbären Berlin . There he played himself to a high performer, was the team-internal defender with the best points in each of the four years and played a decisive role in the successful performance of the capital city club.
For the 2001/02 season he moved to the top Finnish club Jokerit in the SM-liiga and later to EV Zug in Switzerland . His last stop as an active ice hockey player was HC Milano Vipers from the Italian Serie A , for which Cowie played until 2004. After the championship, the defender ended his career and returned to his North American homeland.
