Robert Gustav Meyerheim (* 1846 or 1847 in Danzig ; † 1920 in Horsham , West Sussex ) was a German landscape , genre and miniature painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Meyerheim was the son of the Danzig master painter Gustav Adolf Meyerheim (* 1816, † after 1890) and a scion of the famous Meyerheim family of painters. His grandfather was the Danzig room painter Karl Friedrich Meyerheim (1786–1837). His other sons, so his uncles, were the genre painter Friedrich Eduard Meyerheim and the horse painter Wilhelm Meyerheim (1815–1882). Friedrich Eduard Meyerheim's sons, his cousins, were the painters Franz Meyerheim and Paul Friedrich Meyerheim .

In 1865 Meyerheim was named as a scholarship holder of the Peace Society in Danzig. In 1866 he went to Karlsruhe to the Grand Ducal Badische Kunstschule , where he studied with Hans Fredrik Gude until 1867 . He then attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There he deepened landscape painting in the class of Oswald Achenbach from 1868 to 1870 . In Düsseldorf , where he was among others with Gregor von Bochmann , he maintained a studio for some time , in which he taught Josef Arbesser von Rastburg and Hugo Darnaut . In the 1870s he emigrated to Great Britain, where he lived in London from 1876 and in Horsham (Wimblehurst Road) from 1894 . There he also worked as a miniature painter.
