Roelof Wunderink (born December 12, 1948 in Eindhoven ) is a former Dutch racing driver .

Career

Roelof Wunderink began his career in 1970 in the Dutch Formula Ford Championship , which he won in 1972. With a lot of sponsorship from HB Bewaking Systems , he drove in Formula 3 in 1973 and in Formula 5000 in 1974 .

HB's money also brought him to Formula 1 in 1975 . With the Ensign N174 - Cosworth he managed twice this season to qualify for a world championship run, once with the Ensign N175 , the development and construction of which had been financed by HB Bewaking Systems . However, Wunderink could never classify itself. On his debut at the Spanish Grand Prix , he retired on lap 20 due to a transmission defect. At the Grand Prix of Austria he came though to the finish, but was not classified. He was already four laps behind the winner Vittorio Brambilla when the race was stopped after 29 laps due to rain. In his last appearance in Formula 1, at the US Grand Prix , he dropped out again. This time because of a gearbox damage on the 41st lap.

At the end of the same year, Wunderink had a serious test accident with a Formula 5000 car and suffered a fractured cheekbone, and soon afterwards he retired from racing.

His former sponsor took over the N175 racing car from Ensign at the end of 1975 . HB founded its own team called HB Bewaking Systems in early 1976, based in the Netherlands. There the N175 was slightly revised. It was named Boro 001 and was used by HB Bewaking Systems in 1976 and 1977 for individual world championship races in Formula 1. The attempt to persuade Wunderink to make a comeback was unsuccessful; instead of it had to compete HB Bewaking Systems with Larry Perkins (1976) and Brian Henton (1977).
