Roger Eugene Ailes (* 15. May 1940 in Warren , Ohio ; † 18th May 2017 in Palm Beach ) was a US -American television producer and 20 years CEO of the conservative TV channel Fox News . He was media advisor to Republican Presidents Richard Nixon , Ronald Reagan, and George HW Bush .

Life

Ailes was born in Warren , Ohio in 1940 . He attended Ohio University in Athens , which he left in 1962 with a bachelor's degree . After completing his studies, he initially worked for a regional media company, and in 1967 Richard Nixon's election campaign team hired him as a consultant. In the following years, Ailes worked as a television and musical producer and media consultant.

In 1993 he became President of CNBC . He is considered to be responsible for the higher ratings and greater profitability that the station subsequently achieved. In 1996 he designed Fox News for Rupert Murdoch and became its CEO. Under his leadership, Fox News became the most successful news broadcaster in the United States.

In July 2016, allegations of sexual harassment against Ailes became known. As head of Fox News , he is said to have sexually molested presenter Gretchen Carlson for years. In 2016, she filed a lawsuit against Ailes, now dismissed. After other employees of the station, including Megyn Kelly , had joined the allegations, Ailes resigned on July 21, 2016 all functions at Fox News , which Rupert Murdoch took over temporarily. Ailes received $ 40 million in severance payment from Murdoch. On August 8, 2016, Andrea Tantaros informed her lawyer that she had been sexually molested by Ailes on several occasions since August 12, 2014; Her refusals to Ailes and formal complaints about the harassment at high positions by FNC are said to have led Tantaros to her transfer from the panel show The Five to the talk show Outnumbered and her complete suspension.

Roger Ailes, a hemophiliacs , fell in his home on May 10, 2017, sustaining a head injury and died on May 18, 2017 at the age of 77.
