Rolf Dlubek

Rolf Dlubek (born August 8, 1929 in Leipzig ; died April 16, 2009 in Berlin ) was a German Marxist historian and editor .

Life

Rolf Dlubek attended elementary and middle school in Leipzig. Then he did an apprenticeship as a carpenter . From 1947 to 1948 he attended the preparatory college in Leipzig. From 1948 to 1952 he studied history at the Karl Marx University . Jürgen Kuczynski sponsored the young scientist. After that he was an employee until 1957 in the science department of the Central Committee of the SED (from 1955 head of the history sector). From 1961 to 1963 he was an assistant at the Institute for History of the Academy of Sciences . He was an aspirant from 1957 to 1961. In April 1964 he received his doctorate at Berlin's Humboldt University for Dr. phil. with a thesis on Johann Philipp Becker . In 1966 he became professor and in 1969 full professor for Marx-Engels research and the history of the labor movement . In 1981 he qualified as Dr. sc. at the Institute for Marxism-Leninism at the Central Committee of the SED (IML).

From 1963 to 1989 he was first an employee at the IML, then until 1965 head of the sector History of the Labor Movement in the 19th Century, then in the Marx-Engels department there, department head and later sector head. From 1974 to 1989 he was a board member of the Scientific Council for Marx-Engels Research. From 1978 to 1990 he was part of the editorial team of the Marx-Engels-Jahrbuch. From 1965 to 1968 he was a member of the management team for the completion of the Marx-Engels works . From 1965 to 1990 Rolf Dlubek was a member of the editorial team of the Marx-Engels-Gesamtausgabe (MEGA). He was secretary of the German side during the drafting of the edition guidelines for MEGA 2 . In 1990 he was given early retirement. He worked as a security guard for three years until Hans-Peter Harstick gave him the opportunity to work at MEGA. He provided support in the formation of the International Marx-Engels Foundation . He was retired in 1994. He worked on some of the MEGA's letter volumes through work contracts with the BBAW . Dlubek died in Berlin in 2009.

From 1957 to 1961 he was a member of the editorial board of the Zeitschrift für Geschichtswwissenschaft . Dlubek has been a member of the German Historian Society since it was founded in 1957 .

His main research interests were the work of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in the First International , the life of Johann Philipp Becker, August Bebel and other colleagues of Marx.
