Ronja Kemmer , formerly Ronja Schmitt (born May 3, 1989 in Esslingen am Neckar ), is a German politician ( CDU ) and economist. In December 2014 she moved into the German Bundestag as the youngest member at the time .

Origin and education

Kemmer grew up in Althengstett . After graduating from the Maria-von-Linden-Gymnasium in Calw-Stammheim in 2008, she did a voluntary social year at the Furtbach Hospital in Stuttgart . In 2009 she began studying economics at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the University of Lund (Sweden) , which she completed in 2013 with a bachelor's degree. From 2012 to 2014 she worked as a student assistant for a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament . In 2013 she began a double master’s degree at the Universities of Hohenheim and Pavia (Italy) , which she completed in autumn 2015 as a Master of Science Economics. During her studies she received a scholarship from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation .

She has been married to Fabian Kemmer since October 2016 and is of Protestant denomination.

Political career

Kemmer joined the Junge Union in 2009 and became a member of the CDU a year later. From 2011 she was deputy district chairman of the CDU Calw and had been a member of the district executive committee of the CDU North Baden since 2013. Since 2014 she has also been an elected member of the state board of the Junge Union Baden-Württemberg. From 2012 to 2014 she was state chairwoman of the Ring of Christian Democratic Students (RCDS) in Baden-Württemberg .

Kemmer ran for the 2013 federal election in 19th place on the CDU Baden-Württemberg's state list and initially failed to make it into the Bundestag. After Annette Schavan left the Bundestag and Andreas Schockenhoff passed away, she replaced him on December 27, 2014.

She was the youngest member of the Bundestag in the 18th legislative period since she moved in . Kemmer was a full member of the Committee on European Union Affairs and an alternate member of the Petitions Committee . Kemmer was a member of the German-Italian parliamentary group since January 2015 and a member of the German-Ukrainian parliamentary group since November 2016. She was also a member of the SME parliamentary group . Since December 2016 she has been a member of the Executive Committee of the European People's Party (EPP) . On March 5, 2015 Ronja Kemmer was elected Secretary in the German Bundestag. She gave her first speech in the German Bundestag on May 21, 2015 on the subject of Europe.

In the 2017 federal election , she stood for the CDU in the Ulm electoral district as the successor to Annette Schavan and won it with 41 percent of the vote. She is no longer the youngest member of the 19th German Bundestag , but she is still one of the ten youngest MPs. She is a full member of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment , the Digital Agenda Committee and chair of the "Artificial Intelligence" study commission. In addition, she is a deputy member of the Committee for Economic Affairs and Energy and also acts as secretary during this legislative period.

Political positions

In the Bundestag she voted u. a. against same-sex marriage , for the federal government's draft law on car tolls, against further financial aid for Greece and for the Federal Armed Forces operations Operation Active Fence (Turkey), EUTM Mali , EUTM Somalia , Operation Atalanta and UNMIL Liberia .

Regionally, she campaigns for the B311 / B30 crossbar near Erbach (Danube) . She advocates the recognition of the “ Hohler Fels ” caves as a World Heritage Site .
