The Rosenau - Lokalität & Bühne is a cabaret and cabaret stage in Stuttgart with around 160 cultural events annually. Artists from all over the German-speaking area make guest appearances here. The immediate atmosphere between artist and audience is characteristic of Rosenau, as well as - in the tradition of the first cabaret stages in Berlin and Vienna - the combination of cultural and culinary offerings.

Rosenau has been recognized as a socio-cultural center since 2011 and is a member of the state working group of cultural initiatives and socio-cultural centers in Baden-Württemberg (LAKS).

Cabaret, poetry slam, comedy, readings and cabaret make up the majority of the program. Cabaret artists and comedians such as Jochen Malmsheimer , Rolf Miller , Uli Keuler , Camela de Feo , Hans Gerzig , Hazel Brugger , Helge und das Udo, Patrick Salmen , Ingmar Stadelmann or Matthias Egersdörfer perform regularly in Rosenau.

Part of the concept is the promotion of young and talented artists, for whom Rosenau offers a professional performance location within the series "OpenStage", "Stuttgart Poetry Slam" or "Poetry for Two". In the association of the Stuttgarter Bühnen (the "producer group Stuttgarter Kabarett") the Rosenau is considered a stage for young talent and promoters.

The Rosenau also offers space for formats and series that have not yet been established in the city. Events such as the monthly "Poetry Slam" (since 2000), the "OpenStage" (since 2003), "Mother's Night - The Comedy Club", "Poetry for Two", the "Rosenau Tanznacht" or the "Flop or Top?" , "close-up music" and "Non Stop Stand Up" are or were an integral part of the program.

Concerts by local bands such as HISS or "Hitboutique" as well as performances by songwriters such as Dota , Marc-Uwe Kling & die Gesellschaft, Sarah Lesch , Zam Helga or Simon & Jan can also be found in the program.

Rosenau has been organizing the Stuttgart edition of the Quatsch Comedy Club since January 2016 .

Since the 1990s, Rosenau has been referred to as the "discovery stage". Michael Mittermeier , Kaya Yanar , Leo Bassi and Die Fantastischen Vier appeared at the beginning of their careers in Rosenau. This is one of the reasons why Rosenau regularly organizes nationally known artists "outside the home" to this day. These "guest performances" - with Eckart von Hirschhausen , Rainald Grebe , Martina Schwarzmann , Vince Ebert , Marc-Uwe Kling , Sebastian Pufpaff , Torsten Sträter or Olaf Schubert - take place in Stuttgart in the Theaterhaus , Wizemann or the Liederhalle .

history

In 1894 the Bachner brewery erected the building on Rotebühlstrasse in Stuttgart as a brewery restaurant. After the turn of the century, the beer brewer Ernst Wulle took over the restaurant, including the brewhouse and storage cellar. Even at that time, events and meetings were held regularly in the hall. After the Second World War , major renovations took place, the hall and bar were spatially separated from each other. After the merger of the Wulle and Dinkelacker breweries, Rosenau became the property of Dinkelacker AG in 1971. From 1973 the hall was mainly used for club evenings, as a dance café and as an amateur theater. At that time, Rosenau was a home-style restaurant with a regional and local cultural program.

In 1992 the restaurateurs Johannes Zeller and Christoph Ulmer took over the traditional restaurant. They established the Rosenau's current reputation as a cabaret. Artists such as Ingo Appelt , Leo Bassi , Rolf Miller , Ben Becker and Kaya Yanar appeared there for the first time in Stuttgart in the 1990s.

In 2002 Johannes Zeller announced that he would no longer manage Rosenau. Since September 2002 the stage and restaurant have been operated by a commercial subsidiary of the social enterprise Neue Arbeit . In the same year Michael Drauz took over the artistic direction of the house, which he still holds today.

Rosenau was not economically profitable at this time. In April 2009, the cultural stage and restaurant were therefore financially separated from each other. This and the founding of the non-profit association Rosenau Kultur eV created the prerequisites for financial support from the city. In 2013 the "Neue Arbeit Dienstleistungsagentur GmbH" announced its final withdrawal as the operator of Rosenau. Since the beginning of 2014, Rosenau Kultur eV has been responsible for the cultural stage as tenant and lessee.

Structure and financing

Rosenau Kultur eV has been financially supported by the City of Stuttgart's Cultural Office since 2010 and now also by the State of Baden-Württemberg. After only a thinned-out operation with around 80 events per year was now possible, the Rosenau now offers a year-round cultural program again. Over the years, artists, guests and artist agencies have repeatedly advocated the preservation of the stage. The cabaret artist Olaf Schubert, for example, is quoted on the Rosenau homepage as saying: "We have made several guest appearances here and encountered an interested and pleasantly often young audience, which is certainly also due to the stage's pricing policy. I believe that especially young ones Artists depend on such stages and thus the whole shop is important. "

Since May 2010 there has been a group of friends and sponsors, whose members have promoted the preservation of the stage during the negotiations with the city of Stuttgart about financial support with various campaigns and which support Rosenau to this day with an annual contribution.
