Rosenmontag is a 1955 German color film drama from the Wilhelmine milieu by and with Willy Birgel . Ruth Niehaus and Dietmar Schönherr can also be seen in other leading roles . The story is based on the play of the same name by Otto Erich Hartleben .

action

In a small German town shortly before the outbreak of the First World War . The young lieutenant Rudloff got engaged to Ingeborg Wagner, the extroverted, brunette daughter of the respected Kommerzienrat Wagner. When he met the beautiful flower girl Anna Krüger, the daughter of the old trainman Heinrich Krüger, who came from simple circles, it happened to him. In a flash, Lieutenant Rudloff falls in love with the modest, introverted young woman, causing a scandal. The young officer is put under pressure, and it is made clear to him that he will endanger his career and his social standing if he adheres to this alleged mesalliance. Even when Rudloff quits his service at the gun to marry Anna, the intrigues and viciousness of the people around him against him and his great love do not stop.

The social gossip and ubiquitous resentment gradually begin to undermine his love and trust in Anna. An alleged unfaithfulness arouses in Hans first doubts, even if this assertion ultimately turns out to be untrue and a further intrigue. After his return from the forced transfer, Lieutenant Rudloff arrives back in his hometown and has to discover on Rose Monday that Anna is enjoying herself in the general carnival hustle and bustle. Rudloff makes her a scene because he feels hurt in his honor. As the ultimate act of proving her loyalty, Anna is ready to commit suicide. At the last moment the handsome junior officer realizes his mistake and his loved one for his lack of trust in forgiveness. Both young people can now begin a future together.
