Stern von Rio is a German-Italian adventure film melodrama by the Hollywood returnees Kurt Neumann from 1955. Maria Frau , Johannes Heesters and Willy Fritsch play the leading roles . The story is a remake of the same name La Jana - classic from 1940 .

Somewhere in Brazil's impassable nature. Here the adventurous soldier of fortune, Vincente Salvino, digs for diamonds without permission. One day he was very lucky when he found a particularly large gemstone in a river bed. With girlfriend Dina he wants to celebrate the find that could make him rich. When the classy dancer Chiquita and her musician, the mute Mario, arrive a little later, it is for Vincente. From now on he only has eyes for the young, seductive woman. Burning in love, he would like to give Chiquita the “Star of Rio” diamond as a gift. But since Vincente has illegally transferred the clunker into his possession and also found it during an illegal search in the mining area of the mine owner Don Felipe, he is arrested and the diamond stolen from him immediately.
Chiquita is eager to get the Star of Rio, as promised by Vincente, and now begins to ensnare Don Felipe with all the means of female seduction. The much older Caballero is fascinated by the exotic dancer and lets herself into her flirtation attempts. When he finally puts the gem around her neck, as he had hoped, the light goes out as if by magic, and someone rips the precious gem from Chiquita's neck under cover of darkness. The mute Mario is the culprit who did this out of veneration for Chiquita. From now on, the star of Rio moves through several hands. Meanwhile, Don Felipe asks the girl for her hand, and she agrees. Finally, the gem comes back to Felipe on winding paths. The moment Chiquita sees her Vincente again, she changes her mind and is now ready to live a life with him, even if it is in poverty.
Production notes
The shooting of Stern von Rio began on December 12, 1954 and ended on March 9, 1955. The film was shot on location in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro and the surrounding area) and in the CCC studios in Berlin-Spandau . The premiere took place a month after the shooting ended, on April 9, 1955.
Frank Clifford took over the production management. Gabriel Pellon and Hans-Jürgen Kiebach designed the film structures, Trude Ulrich the costumes. Arthur Grimm got the still photos, Heinz Rosen was the choreographer of the dances.
